Equipped with EMD Blomberg type-B  trucks.

Equipped with an electric parking brake.

Unit is totally battery powered.

Painted in special green, white and black scheme.

Equipped for regenerative dynamic braking, which converts
excess energy for use in battery charging.

Originally assembled by NS Juniata Locomotive Shop from parts supplied by 
Brookville Equipment Corporation, using the frame of former NS EMD GP38.
The unit was developed jointly by Norfolk Southern, Brookville Equipment,
Penn State University, and the US Department of Transportation.

Unit was originally equipped with 1,080 Odyssey 12-volt lead-acid batteries
from EnerSys.  Testing with this original configuration was not successful. 

Unit was returned to service in October 2014 following upgrading by NS with
864 lead-carbon batteries from Axion Power International, as well as a
 battery management system from TMV Control Systems. The upgrade
resulted in a new and taller battery compartment portion of the carbody.

Equipped for remote control operation in 10/2014.
